Mariners’ Tales: Sketching Bristol
20 June @ 10:00:21 June @ 16:30
Ideal for: A weekend away with a friend, Art groups, History lovers, Photographers, Walkers
Straddling the River Avon, Bristol has a huge maritime significance. The harbourside, shipyards and iconic suspension bridge are just a few reminders of its history and importance during the industrial revolution of the 19th century. A vibrant and cultural city, there are sketch opportunities at every turn.
During these fun workshops we’ll base ourselves in Clifton near the Observatory. From here we can study the impressive architecture of the Merchant Mariners and explore the city centre and harbourside. Suitable for all levels, in this fun 2 days you’ll overcome your fear of the blank page and explore different page layouts and alternating techniques for different subjects. Working with pencil, ink and watercolour we’ll go through the essentials of drawing on location, and how the use of colour and different tonal values can influence a sketch.
If you haven’t sketched before or are lacking confidence with watercolour, these workshops are for you!
Times: 10am – 4.30pm (with a pause for lunch)
For anyone arriving Friday evening there will be a welcome drink at 6pm
- Saturday 20 June: We’ll start by the Harbourside for the essentials of travel sketching ‘on the go’ and how to work with watercolour. We’ll work with different techniques to create a vibrant story of the sea.
